THE THIRD INTERNATIONAL FRYDERYK CHOPIN PIANO COMPETITION IN MONGOLIA

CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPANTS

Mongolian State Conservatory, The Embassy of the Republic of Poland to Mongolia jointly organizing The Third International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition from October 21st to November 24th 2021. The competition aims to discover the talents of young pianists through music of Fryderyk Chopin.

The competition will be judged by renowned Mongolian and Polish, and international pianists.

The Competition has two age categories and each category has two stages.

Category “A” (ages 18-32) and Category “B” (ages up to 17 years old)

The First Round of the competition will be organized between 20th of October 2021 to 25th of October, 2021 online.

The second round of the competition will take place between 20th of November to 23rd of November 2021, in the Concert Hall of the Mongolian State Conservatory, Ulaanbaatar. Mongolia.

In case of COVID-19 outbreak, and if the border closed, the Second round of the competition will be organized online.

The Award Ceremony and The Gala Concert of the competition winners will take place on the 24th of November at 6 pm, at the State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre of Mongolia.

Repertoire of the competition

Category “B” for pianists up to 17 years old

First stage:

  • S.Bach. One Prelude and Fugue from The Well-Tempered Clavier, book I or book II
  • Chopin. One Etude (except op 10 no 3, op 10 no 6, op.25 no 7)
  • Chopin. One Nocturne by the competitors own choice

Second stage:

  • One work of F. Chopin by the competitors own choice. (Ballade, Scherzo, Polonaise, Waltz, Barcarolle, Fantasia, Tarantella, Rondo, Variations)
  • Chopin. One Mazurka by the competitors own choice
  • One of the piano pieces composed by Mongolian composers by the competitors own choice
  • Khangal. Variations for Piano
  • Gonchig-Sulmaa. Prelude no 1
  • Munkh-Ertunts. Fugue

Category “A” for pianists 18-32 years old

First stage:

  • S.Bach. One Prelude and Fugue from The Well-Tempered Clavier, book I or book II
  • Chopin. Two Etudes (except op 10 no 3, op 10 no 6, op 25 no 7)
  • Chopin. One Mazurka (op 59 no 2 or op 59 no 3)

Second stage:

  • Chopin. One Nocturne by the competitors own choice
  • Chopin. One piece from the given works. (Ballade, Scherzo, Polonaise op 22, op 44, op 53 op 61, Barcarolle, Fantasia in f minor, Sonatas 1st movement alone, or 2nd, 3rd and 4th movements together)
  • One of the piano pieces composed by Mongolian composers by the competitors own choice
  • Sansargereltekh. Staying with the Devil
  • Ulziibayar. Rhapsody
  • Munkh-Ertunts. Variations

Registration

The candidates will have to submit the APPLICATION FORM in the www.conservatory.edu.mn website. The registration will be open from 1st of October to 20th of October 2021.Please be aware that the registration will be closed on the 21st of October 2021.

The following documents needed in order to complete the application from.

  • Short artistic biography (no more than 100 words)
  • Copy of birth certificate or ID card
  • Artistic photo to be used in competition brochure
  • List of repertoire for the 1st and 2nd stage of the competition
  • Proof of payment of the application fee of 50 USD into the competition account /TBA/
  • YouTube link of the 1st round repertoire performance

Video requirements

  • The video should be recorded only for the Third International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The videos that were sent to other competitions and events are not acceptable.
  • The format of the video should be 1920x1080p, MP4 H.264
  • The video should show the entire body of the performer
  • The video may not be edited and the all three pieces of the 1st round should be played and recorded in one video without break.
  • Please do not write any additional information on the video. The name, nationality, repertoire should be written only in the application form.
  • The scores of the Mongolian composition can be downloaded from the competition website conservatory.edu.mn

Competition prizes

Category “A”

1st prize: Diploma and 3000 USD

2nd prize: Diploma and 2000 USD

3rd prize: Diploma and 1000 USD

Special prize for one participant: Diploma and 500 USD

Category “B”

1st prize: Diploma and 1000 USD

2nd prize: Diploma and 750 USD

3rd prize: Diploma and 500 USD

Special prize for one participant: Diploma and 200 USD

The competition awards are financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland.

One pianist will be selected from the competition and awarded Grand-Prix. (could be selected from age category “A” or “B”). The Grand-Prix winner will be invited to Poland and perform at the F.Chopin`s birth place, take Master Classes from the renowned Polish piano teachers. All costs related to the travel to Poland will be covered by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw.

The judges have a right to divide the prizes or not to give any of the prizes. The decision of the jury will be the last decision, and will not be discussed.
