THE FOURTH INTERNATIONAL FRYDERYK CHOPIN PIANO COMPETITION

IN MONGOLIA

 

CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPANTS

Mongolian State Conservatory and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland to Mongolia jointly organize the Fourth International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Mongolia from December 10 to 16, 2024, in Ulaanbaatar.

The competition aims to discover the talents of young pianists through the music of Fryderyk Chopin.

General organizer: Mongolian State Conservatory

Co-organizer: The Embassy of the Republic of Poland to Mongolia

 

The Competition has three age categories.

Category “A” (ages 18-35) , Category “B” (ages 14-17) and Category “C” (ages up to 13 years old)

The First round of the competition will take place from December 10th to 12th, 2024.

The second round of the competition will take place from December 13th to 15th, 2024

The first and second rounds of the competition will take place in the Concert Hall of the Mongolian State Conservatory, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

The Award Ceremony and The Gala Concert of the competition winners will take place on December 16th at 6 p.m. at the Mongolian State Philharmonic.

 

REPERTOIRE OF THE COMPETITION

Category C (ages up to 13 years old)

/this category has only one round/

  1. 1.J.S. Bach. One invention or sinfonia, OR one prelude and fugue from the WTC. Book I or II
  2. 2.Chopin. One piece /by the participant`s choice/
  3. 3.One virtuoso piano piece by any composer.

 

Category B (ages 14-17)

First round

  1. 1.J.S. Bach. One Prelude and Fugue. Book I or II
  2. 2.F. Chopin. One etude /except op 10 no 3, op 10 no 6 and op. 25 no 7/
  3. 3.F. Chopin. One Nocturne /by the participants’ choice/

Second round

  1. 1. F. Chopin. One piece from the list /Ballade, Scherzo, Polonaise, Waltz, Barcarolle, Tarantella, Rondo, Variations, from preludes op 28 no 7-12, or 13-18, or 19-24/
  2. 2. F. Chopin. One Mazurka /by the participants’ choice/
  3. 3. One of the following pieces composed by Mongolian composers
  • – S. Gonchigsumlaa. Prelude for piano no 18
  • – Z. Khangal. Variations on a folk song theme

 

Category A (ages 18-35)

First round

  1. 1.J.S. Bach. One Prelude and Fugue. Book I or II
  2. 2.F.Chopin. Two etudes / except op 10 no 3, op 10 no 6 and op. 25 no 7/
  3. 3.F.Chopin. One of the following Mazurkas: op 24 no 4 OR op 33 no 3

Second round

  1. 1.F.Chopin. One Nocturne /by the participant`s choice/
  2. 2.F.Chopin. One large-scale work from the following: Ballade, Scherzo, Polonaise op 22, op 44, op 53, op 61. Barcarolle, Fantasia in f, Sonata I movement OR II-III-IV movements
  3. 3.One of the following pieces composed by Mongolian composers:
  • – S.Sansargereltekh. Staying with the Devil
  • – Sh.Ulziibayar. Rhapsody
  • – Kh.Munkh-Ertunts. Variations.

REGISTRATION

The candidates will have to submit the APPLICATION FORM in the www.conservatory.edu.mn website. The registration will be open on October 28th 2024, and close on November 25th of  2024. 

The following documents needed in order to complete the application from.

  • ♦  Copy of birth certificate, passport or ID card
  • ♦  Artistic photo to be used in competition brochure
  • ♦ List of repertoire for the 1st and 2nd stage of the competition (the scores of the Mongolian composers can be printed out from the website of the Mongolian State Conservatory https://www.conservatory.edu.mn/chopin#ch-buteel  )
  • ♦ Proof of payment of the application fee of 50 USD into the competition account
  • ♦ Bank account: State Fund 100900015418 Mongolian State Conservatory/

 

COMPETITION PRIZES:

Category “A”

1st prize: Diploma and 3000 USD

2nd prize: Diploma and 2000 USD

3rd prize: Diploma and 1000 USD

Special prize for one participant: Diploma and 500 USD

Category “B”

1st prize: Diploma and 1000 USD

2nd prize: Diploma and 750 USD

3rd prize: Diploma and 500 USD

Special prize for one participant: Diploma and 200 USD

Category “C”

1st prize: Diploma and 300 USD

2nd prize: Diploma and 200 USD

3rd prize: Diploma and 150 USD

Special prize for one participant: Diploma and 100 USD

The judges have a right to divide the prizes or not to give any of the prizes. The decision of the jury will be the last decision, and will not be discussed.
